ONE many of our habits have changed in quarantine. Maybe you have become a puzzle master, or plant lady, or are you suddenly a skilled enough baker to theoretically handle it The great British baking show. If you fall into the latter group, you may have noticed that your eating habits have changed during this time. And hey, it’s cool – we all have a right to our joy, and in this time of high stress, it can look different to find joy than it used to. That said, you may still be curious about how your dietary choices, whether changed or not, can affect your health. Good news: There is one device that can help you with that – Lumen Metabolism Tracker.

In the latest episode of What the Wellness, host and producer Ella Dove tests the tracker, a $ 299 device that “is basically like having a nutritionist in your pocket.” But what exactly will you gain from having insight into your metabolic statistics? Well, simply put, optimizing your metabolism can lead to overall better health, so being able to track it can put you in the driver’s seat of sorts as far as your metabolism is concerned.

Improving your energy, deepening your sleep, strengthening your immune system and keeping your blood pressure stable are all part of the package. To do this, Lumen Metabolism Tracker seeks to answer three questions: How does my body work? How have my habits affected me? What should I eat?

“Lumen gives you a personalized nutrition plan that includes the amount of protein, carbohydrates and fat you should eat.” —Michal Mor, PhD, Lumen co-creator

“Lumen gives you a personalized nutrition plan that includes the amount of protein, carbohydrates and fat you should eat,” says physiologist Michal Mor, PhD, co-creator of Lumen along with his twin sister, physiologist Merav Mor, PhD. “To help you apply the recommendation, we also provide you with meal inspiration that you can filter based on your preferences, based on your allergies.” And the more information you put into the system, the more it becomes, your meal plans will be refined.

But how Lumen Metabolism Tracker is able to provide these recommendations is what is particularly interesting. By taking three breaths through your Lumen, your device measures your carbon dioxide concentration levels and is able to tell you whether you are burning primarily fat or most carbohydrates. It is a kind of vape-like design, but is instead essential to improve your health, not to compromise it using sophisticated technology that teaches you how to snack effectively.

Whether it’s something worth trying is ultimately your choice to make, but Dove walked away from the device with the deep feeling that the human body is “magical”.
