How to make a recycled light plant

Rate this post

IIf you throw your candles in the recycling bin after hitting the bottom, you will miss something. After a one-step cleaning process that removes the extra wax, you can reuse them in bathroom containers for essential items like q-tips, pencil holders and even mugs if you have any ceramic. You can also turn an empty candle into a planter – anything you want always need more of.

In a video that has garnered more than 2.1 million views, TikTok user Ashlie from @ash_o_lie shares exactly how to clean a used candle and turn it into a plant box. The process is simple: To remove the wax at the bottom, she says you can simply put the candle in the freezer, allowing the wax to cure completely. Turn it upside down after a few hours and tap it gently so the wax falls straight out. (Keep the excess wax and use it in a scent warmer.) If you want, you can finish by giving it a quick scrub with soap and water.

Ashlie says three-wick candles are the perfect size for 4-inch plant pots, while smaller options are great for things like succulents. You also do not have to worry about a drain hole. Instead of planting directly in the candle holder, store it in the plastic pot – a method recommended by professionals with any decorative pot you use. Even the lids can be reused; they make really beautiful plant bowls.

You probably already have a wealth of candles that you can clean out and recycle at home. But the next time you buy one, these options give you a great scented light and a beautiful plant box with every purchase.
